Welcome to Work in a team course. This course has been designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to effectively lead and facilitate a team in a workplace within any industry. This unit has a specific focus on the teamwork skills required for team leader or supervisor level (depending on organisational structure) workers with responsibility for others or teams.

Background - What is leadership?

Leadership is about how you influence others to achieve their goals. If you don't get the chance to get to know your team members, this is something you will struggle with. It might seem tempting to just jump in and make big moves right away, but you don't have to do this to prove your worth.

Listen to your team members, find out their needs and aspirations, gather ideas and determine potential strengths and weaknesses. Only then will you be able to create a leadership strategy that is likely to succeed. Knowing your team is key to building trust and respect with them. Keep in touch with your team, especially those who are struggling. It is a common practice for new team leaders to have a brief, 10-15 minute check in conversation once or twice per week. Even having calendar openings for ‘office hours’ can be a good idea.

This will allow people to schedule meetings and get in touch with you if needed. Team leaders must invest their time and effort in order to be successful. This is a common mistake that team leaders make. Too often, it's added to someone else's already long task list. This can lead to failure. You must be available to your team as a leader and visible to them. Your new leadership role includes creating a positive work environment and community. You won't be as visible and able to support your team if you are too busy with your critical tasks. Before you take on leadership, make sure to review your work load and negotiate new terms.

Aims and Objectives of this course

This course Lead and facilitate a team (based on BSBXTW401) will help you earn the skills necessary to identify common objectives of workplace team, responsibilities and required outcome(s). It also requires the use of performance plans to establish expected outcomes, goals and behaviours for individual team members in accordance with team objective and relevant policies.

Our Lead and facilitate a team course is based on the unit of competency of BSBXTW401. Whilst this course is not nationally recognised, it follows the learning outcomes and elements associated with that unit. The course contains

  1. . Narrated e-learning learning resources online
  2. . Online Assessment tasks
  3. . Ability to download your Certificate of Completion once assessment tasks are completed

What will you learn by completing the training course?

This course will include an understanding of awareness of the relevant legislation and your responsibilities in leading and facilitating a team. Learning outcomes include:

  1. . Select appropriate strategies to ensure team members are accountable for their roles and responsibilities
  2. . Plan for contingencies that could impact the team
  3. . Communicate common team objectives and responsibilities to team members
  4. . Allocate tasks to team members based on staff expertise or development potential and provide appropriate instructions
  5. . Facilitate open and respectful communication and collaboration between team members, considering the needs of those from diverse backgrounds
  6. . Identify opportunities for cross collaboration amongst external and internal teams and individuals
  7. . Provide coaching to staff to enhance workplace culture
  8. . Support individuals according to organisational requirements to work towards common team goals
  9. . Facilitate team to identify, brainstorm, report and resolve task related issues and inefficiencies
  10. . Use problem solving skills to deal with any team, task or individual challenges
  11. . Measure team member performance against agreed work plans
  12. . Provide timely and constructive performance feedback to team members according to expected organisational standards
  13. . Identify specific learning and development opportunities to improve team and individual performance and behaviours
  14. . Implement action plans to address individual and team training needs

How Is the Training Delivered?

Lead and facilitate a team course is available online and completed in your own time. This Lead and facilitate a team training course is based on the learning outcomes outlined above.

The course is typically designed to be completed in a minimum of four hours. However, the exact length of the course may depend on your ability and prior knowledge around the subject. 

As the training is delivered online, you are able to complete it at your own pace.

What Accreditation Will You Get? 

After completing the Lead and facilitate a team course, an assessment is conducted to determine if you have understood the information presented during the training course. If you pass this assessment, you receive a Certificate of Completion.

IMPORTANT NOTE whilst this course is based on the learning outcomes of the course provided, it is important to note that it is not a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment unless you opt for that option. Nationally Recognised training is only really required If you specifically require that unit of competency for a qualification or licence (typically this will require a practical component, further assessment and increased costs).

This course has been designed to comply with the best practices of national health and safety standards. Terminology has been chosen for clarity and ease of comprehension across jurisdictions. For example, ‘employer’ has been used to signify the broader term ‘PCBU’, while ‘WHS’ represents both work and occupational health and safety.

This training is not a substitute for professional legal advice. If you require further advice or information, please contact the health and safety regulator in your jurisdiction. A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
