Background – Why is effective communication important in the workplace?

Effective communication skills can be difficult to improve and implement at work. It's not easy to do this with remote or hybrid work. Effective communication at work can make a difference for employees, teams, or businesses. It is vital to communicate in the workplace because it increases employee engagement, productivity, satisfaction and morale. Better team collaboration and cooperation is possible through effective communication. Effective workplace communication can lead to better results for employees, teams, or organizations.

You can make a significant impact on your organization's short- and long term success by improving your communication skills, especially as a manager. A good communicator can motivate their team to do more with less misunderstandings and better results. Who doesn't want to have fewer misunderstandings? These things are a key to the success of your company and you as a leader.

Employees feel more involved in their company's future if they are directly involved with work products and initiatives. This motivates them to want to make improvements in the company's profitability, customer satisfaction, or brand. To make sure your communication is effective, plan what you want it to say.

This is especially true for written communications. Great communication may seem effortless but it is rarely. In everyday workplace communications, you shouldn't ‘dumb it down’ or condescend. However, it is important to not make the other person work too hard to understand. Use a simple, clear phrase to convey your point. It is a good idea to repeat it at the beginning and middle of your message.

Aims and Objectives of this course

This course Lead communication in the workplace (based on BSBXCM501) will help you earn the skills necessary to analyse internal and external information needs relevant to workplace and to develop or structure communication protocol(s) to meet organisational information needs and goals.

Our Lead communication in the workplace course is based on the unit of competency of BSBXCM501. Whilst this course is not nationally recognised, it follows the learning outcomes and elements associated with that unit. The course contains

  1. Narrated e-learning learning resources online
  2. Online Assessment tasks
  3. Ability to download your Certificate of Completion once assessment tasks are completed

What will you learn by completing the training course?

This course will include an understanding of awareness of the relevant legislation and your responsibilities in effectively leading communication in the workplace.

Learning outcomes include:

  1. Identify ways to adapt communication protocols to suit various contexts
  2. Prepare materials to support and/or implement communication protocols
  3. Direct others to communicate according to organisational requirements and goals
  4. Explain complex information to positively influence others
  5. Motivate others to communicate respectfully, considering the needs of all, including those from diverse backgrounds
  6. Identify and address any communication challenges to remove barriers to understanding
  7. Identify and use a variety of communication styles relevant to varying audiences
  8. Present information in a succinct, clear and persuasive manner
  9. Evaluate differences in perspective and critically examine outcomes
  10. Negotiate towards a final outcome with a focus on key outcomes
  11. Confirm and implement outcomes of negotiation or communication using appropriate methods
  12. Provide mentoring to others to assist them in achieving communication goals
  13. Obtain feedback from a variety of sources to manage the outcomes of communications and negotiations
  14. Identify and document areas for improvement in communication for team or organisational practices
  15. Implement plans to improve communication processes

How Is the Training Delivered?

Lead communication in the workplace course is available online and completed in your own time. This Lead communication in the workplace training course is based on the learning outcomes outlined above.

The course is typically designed to be completed in a minimum of four hours.However, the exact length of the course may depend on your ability and priorknowledge around the subject.

As the training is delivered online, you are able to complete it at your own pace.

What Accreditation Will You Get?

After completing the Lead communication in the workplace course, an assessment is conducted to determine if you have understood the information presented during the training course. If you pass this assessment, you receive a Certificate of Completion.

IMPORTANT NOTE whilst this course is based on the learning outcomes of the course provided, it is important to note that it is not a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment unless you opt for that option. Nationally Recognised training is only really required If you specifically require that unit of competency for a qualification or licence (typically this will require a practical component, further assessment and increased costs).

This course has been designed to comply with the best practices of national health and safety standards. Terminology has been chosen for clarity and ease of comprehension across jurisdictions. For example, ‘employer’ has been used to signify the broader term ‘PCBU’, while ‘WHS’ represents both work and occupational health and safety.

This training is not a substitute for professional legal advice. If you require further advice or information, please contact the health and safety regulator in your jurisdiction. A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
