Joel Clark is a British artist working in the unique medium of 'hand-cut' vinyl, and is the creative force behind the Speed Icons automotive art collection. Being raised only a short drive to Silverstone circuit meant that Joel was exposed to vintage race meetings by his ERA-loving father from a very early age, and when combined with his already deep love for drawing anything on wheels, he knew from around the age of 5 that he'd do "something arty" when grown up. There was however one car that stood out above all the rest from the Silverstone meetings: the BRM V16. To this day, hearing that orchestra of pistons still sends shivers throughout his entire body so, you can imagine the ecstatic joy when some 40 years later Joel received an email from BRM to produce a series of original artworks based on the teams many great achievements. The first two pieces draw inspiration from Clark's series of motorsport-themed poster artworks, and feature designs that reflect the aesthetics of 50's & 60's poster graphics. The marriage of hand-cut skills on a contemporary product makes for a finish that can't be achieved in any other medium or practice; the bright, bold blocks of colour lend a Pop Art sensibility to each piece, yet retain a contemporary look and feel that bring a big punch of colour to any space.
