artist biography
Karl (Charles) Edvard Portin was a Swedish painter and draftsman, born on 11 October 1889 in Nedertorneå, Norrbotten County. He was the son of Nils Ludvig Portin and Maria Kandelin, and in 1928 he married Hildegard Wiegand.

Portin studied at the Dresden Art School (1910–1911) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Weimar (1911–1914) before continuing his training in Paris with Henri Morisset, Othon Friesz, Henri de Waroquier, Marcel Gromaire, and Fernand Léger. Paris became his main base until the outbreak of the Second World War. His artistic education was complemented by extensive travels, including study trips to London, Vienna, Warsaw, Amsterdam, Egypt, and several longer stays in Italy.

Initially working in pastel, then in oil and watercolour, Portin gradually developed toward non-figurative art. By the 1950s he was experimenting with his own technique in plastic tempera. Critics noted both the precision and lyrical freedom of his compositions. Writing in Expressen (11 November 1952), L. E. Åström observed that in works such as Saraband, Portin achieved a striking harmony of colour through interwoven forms that were “mathematically exact yet improvisatory, culminating in a purely decorative and visually beautiful whole.”

Portin exhibited widely in Sweden and abroad. In Stockholm he held solo exhibitions at Galerie St Lucas in 1944 (together with Ebbe Berg and Sture Lundgren), Louis Hahne’s Art Salon in 1950, and Expo Aleby in 1952. He also showed in Malmö (1945, 1948), Norrköping (1952), Göteborg, Örebro, Linköping, Jönköping, and on multiple occasions in northern cities including Luleå, Kiruna, Östersund, and Haparanda. His international career included solo exhibitions in Florence (1956), Rome (1957), Milan (1958), and Cairo (1959).

During his years in Paris, he frequently participated in the Salon d’Automne, the Salon des Tuileries, and the Salon des Indépendants, and after the war in the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles.

Portin’s works are represented in the collections of the Moderna Museet (Museum of Modern Art) in Stockholm and in the art museums of Norrköping, Örebro, Borås, Gävle, Östersund, and Luleå, as well as in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome and the State Art Museum in Cairo. He was also a member of the Swedish Artists’ National Organization (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation).

He passed away at the age of 90 on 16 January 1980 in Helsingborg.

This watch is beautiful and exactly as described. It came in all the original packaging. The details in this watch are impossible to forger. I also had my local watch shop verify its authenticity when getting it sized, they specialize in Rolex and Tissot.

Looks beautiful and very accurate
Color: Grey
Bought this Tissot as a gift for my wife because she likes larger watches. She has small wrists and this watch looks great on her. The dial is beautiful, the case is well made and the mechanism is very accurate running +4 seconds per day out of the box. Power reserve is great keeping the watch running for up to 3 days. I think this watch is a bit too dressy for a man, but this is my taste. My wife loves it.

Stunning Automatic Watch With TopTier Durability and Precision
Color: Grey
“I got this Tissot PRX for my cousin’s birthday and bro fell in LOVE instantly. This thing keeps time like a beast, never slows down, never lags. Automatic movement, so no batteries, no drama. Durability? Stupid good. You can hit it, bump it, live life rough, it still looks box fresh. Size wise it was almost perfect. I just had to remove two links, nothing big. It’s light, functional, comfortable, doesn’t weigh you down, doesn’t get in the way but more importantly I can say this watch is in everyone’s eyesight when we wear it. Cause of course I had to get another one! Basically. I gave him a very nice piece as a gift, and now he’s walking around like he owns Switzerland.

Excellent value for an automatic watch, keeps VERY good time.
Color: Grey, Color: Grey
I've only had the watch for a day but wanted to leave a quick review on it to share a couple of notes. So far it keeps VERY good time, better than any of the automatics I own (including a Rolex Submariner, Tag Heuer Aquaracer, Tag Heuer Formula One, and several other sub $1k watches). I set it to an atomic time app on my phone yesterday and 24 hours later it's still SPOT on - hasn't gained/lost even a 1/10 of a second. I was shocked to see it's kept PERFECT time for the last day, I'm really blown away so far. I've worn it the entire time, we'll see how well it keeps time while being stored in a winder. This picture shown is the watch with a 22mm leather band on it, fit's without any issues (just need to squeeze in the leather a tad). I doubt it would work with a 22mm metal bracelet, but leather works great. Just FYI since the 21mm lug width is kind of odd. The face isn't quite a lustrious as the images make it look, but it's still a great-looking watch. For a sub $1000 automatic you can't go wrong, this is a fantastic watch at a great price. It'll be my daily driver for some time I'm sure. If I have any issues in the future I'll update the review.
