Background – How to become a disability support worker?
People with disabilities need support workers to provide supervision, care and support in their homes, hospitals, and clinics. They work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the individual's mental and physical well-being. They provide companionship, emotional support, as well as promoting independence and participation in the community. Personal requirements of a Disability Support Worker include:

Aims and Objectives of this course
This course Work effectively in disability support (based on CHCDIS021) will help you earn the skills necessary to identify own job role requirements from position description and discuss own job role requirements with supervisor to clarify and confirm job role scope and expectations. Our Work effectively in disability support course is based on the unit of competency of CHCCOM005. Whilst this course is not nationally recognised, it follows the learning outcomes and elements associated with that unit. The course contains

What will you learn by completing the training course?
This course will include an understanding of awareness of the relevant legislation and your responsibilities in working effectively in disability support. Learning outcomes include:
- . Recognise and refer work tasks outside own job role scope to appropriate person according to organisational reporting policies and procedures.
- . Comply with legal and human rights framework requirements relevant to disability support work.
- . Communicate and cooperate with inter-disciplinary team members.
- . Use digital technology to access and share workplace information.
- . Read individualised plans to identify tasks.
- . Use person centred communication techniques when carrying out work tasks.
- . Seek consent from person, carer, family or others before commencing support activities.
- . Recognise signs of abuse and report according to organisational policies and procedures.

What Accreditation Will You Get?

IMPORTANT NOTE whilst this course is based on the learning outcomes of the course provided, it is important to note that it is not a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment unless you opt for that option. Nationally Recognised training is only really required If you specifically require that unit of competency for a qualification or licence (typically this will require a practical component, further assessment and increased costs).

For example, ‘employer’ has been used to signify the broader term ‘PCBU’, while ‘WHS’ represents both work and occupational health and safety.

A Certificate of Completion is issued on successful completion of the course and you are required to get an 80% pass mark to be deemed as understanding the content. It is recommended that training is conducted every 2 years to stay refreshed.
