Background - What is audit quality?
Audit quality refers to matters that contribute to the likelihood of an auditor achieving the primary objective of obtaining reasonable assurance that the financial report as a whole is free of material misstatements. It also ensures material deficiencies identified are addressed or communicated through the audit report.
This comprises of appropriately enforcing important accounting estimations and treatments that can materially affect the reported financial position and results.
The quality of financial report is a necessary component of effective and informed capital markets and investors. The goal of an independent audit is to help investors have peace of mind about the robustness of financial reports. The reason why it is important to improve consistency of accounting audit execution and promote excellent internal audits is that solid financial information gives confidence to investors.
Internal audits must be performed by professional and experienced auditors to foster in producing high-quality audits and strict professional skepticism. The auditors should have the appropriate experience and resources to efficiently perform thorough internal supervision and reviews.
