Each module contains one or more videos that cover different topics related to workplace safety and health. Each topic includes support material. These include a script, discussion questions, activities and reference material, as well as a list of videos.

Participants can create an action plan that is specific to their organization's needs by completing the modules and answering the discussion questions.

Suggested Use

Safety Talks Course participants are encouraged to watch the videos and engage in group discussions after each video is finished. Facilitators and participants can review the key points from each video and module using the provided support material.

There are many ways to view and participate in discussions.

* E-learning Format

* Face-to face safety meetings

* Forum

* Email

Participants can upload the training videos to e-learning and view them online. Participants can review the support material online and answer any questions.

Face-to-face safety meetings allow participants to watch videos and participate in discussions. Face-to-face meetings allow for greater interaction and engagement, but can be logistically challenging.

You can also upload the videos to a forum. Participants can access the videos and other support materials via a private forum, company website, or by uploading them to a forum. Each module contains the answers to your questions.

The modules also include scripts and reference materials. These materials allow participants to review and research the key points of the lesson.

Facilitators and participants can use the video scripts and questions to help them create an action plan. Participants can take specific steps and make suggestions to use the plan in their work environment.

Modules for Courses

Safety Talks Course contains 12 modules. Facilitators have the option to choose the modules that best reflect their organization's safety concerns. This is a summary for each lesson.

Accident Causation Analysis Module

The Accident Causation Analysis module includes "The 5 Whys". The 5 Whys module demonstrates how asking specific questions can lead to solutions and help uncover the core issues.

In the accident causation analysis module, we also discuss the importance of using more safety barriers. In a subsequent module, this topic is covered more in depth. Nevertheless, workplace accidents are often caused by a lack of safety barriers.

Workers need to understand that there is a greater defense against hazards. Every defense has its weaknesses. Multiple barriers increase the safety of the situation.

Module Safety Auditing

Safety Auditing covers both the benefits and drawbacks of safety audits. This module also addresses the behaviors that can lead to injuries and accidents.

The module's first section discusses the benefits of safety audit methodology. Safety audits can help identify potential hazards and gaps in safety protections. This module explains how an audit could create a false sense security.

A good audit will not be effective if you cannot get people to make changes in their behavior and adhere to the safety protocols. This course focuses on behavioural safety and how individuals can affect the safety of the workplace.

Module for Change Management

The Organisational Change Management module explains how to implement new safety procedures. Management of changes within an organization or system is called change management. This module covers the following topics:

* Change management

* Technical support

* Alarm systems

* Interconnection

* An inadequacy mental model

Sometimes, a process must be redesigned to improve its effectiveness. To implement safety measures, organisations must use a change management approach.

This module addresses the dangers of redundant control systems, interconnection, and other issues. These issues reduce the effectiveness of safety measures to protect workers from injury. This course will also cover alarm flooding and how professional engineers can help you develop better hazard control systems.

Module on Communication Skills for Executives

Effective communication skills are essential for executives to ensure workers and supervisors fully understand their roles and responsibilities in Safety Talks. This module covers the following topics:

* Poor communication during shift changes can have serious consequences

* Employee feedback is important

* Top tips for talking with workers

* It is important to talk one-on-one rather than in groups.

* What topics and questions workers should be asking

This module shows how supervisors and executives should interact with workers during site inspections and walk-arounds.

Defence in Depth Module

Consider the importance of multiple safety barriers and defense systems to protect against dangers. This module examines defense in depth using a specific disaster.

Participants will be able to better comprehend that a defense can fail if it has only one point of failure.

Participants will also be discussing the consequences of confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is when you accept only evidence that supports your beliefs. Confirmation bias can cause safety gaps that increase the chance of injuries and accidents.

Hazard Identification Module

Hazard Identification Module demonstrates how to assess workplace risk. Participants are taught proper hazard assessment techniques. The first step to preventing workplace accidents is identifying hazards. These are the steps of a typical hazard management procedure:

* Define hazard

* Assessing the risk

* Making changes (risk management measures)

Once workers and supervisors have identified the hazards, they can take the appropriate risk control steps. These measures can include personal safety and process safety. Process safety refers to changes in processes. Personal safety refers to safety measures taken by individuals.

This module examines the necessity of "safety cases" regimes to ensure compliance with government legislation.

Incident Reporting Systems Module

This module discusses the importance of incident reporting and discusses different reporting systems. This module explains why organisations should report warning signs rather than reporting only incidents that cause injury or loss of time.

This module also covers the design of reporting systems and how to create warning signs that can be easily understood.

The module's final section explains how leaders can use monitoring systems to gather as much information necessary to determine the source of the safety incident.

Learning from Other Incidents Module

Learning from other incidents modules are based on the need to learn from past events. To avoid repeating the same mistakes, workers learn to review past safety incidents.

Participants learn how to report incidents in the previous module. The ability to report incidents allows you to keep track of the events and identify the causes. Supervisors and workers can report the incident to try to determine the root cause.

Learning from past incidents can be a way to prevent another incident from happening.

Management of Major Hazards - The Use of Indicators Module

Supervisors can use certain indicators to determine if major hazards are being managed well or threatening the productivity of the organization. This includes indicators such as the LTI (lost time injury) rate.

This module examines the use indicators to analyze the effectiveness of hazard prevention measures. This module also provides information on which indicators are most effective in analysing workplace injuries and accidents. This module provides an overview of how to use indicators to manage major hazards at work.

Organisational Structure - Its Effect on Managing Risk Module

The Organisational Structure module provides a comprehensive look at the importance of a well-structured hierarchy for managing risk. Each organisation must have a structure that allows employees to manage specific safety functions. The following are key topics:

* Organisational design

* Lines of authority

* Safety departments for corporate employees

This module examines the importance and steps required to manage major hazards at the corporate level. It is easier to review and implement safety practices when the structure is in place.

Risk of managing costs Module

The module Risk of Managing costs explains how safety and costs must be balanced. Safety hazards can be created by cost-cutting, particularly when it comes to maintenance costs. Injuries and accidents are more likely to occur if maintenance is poor.

Incentives schemes are also explored in the module to encourage compliance with safety measures. Participants will learn about the behaviors that contribute to a safer workplace.

This module also discusses unconstrained pressure, safety first and profit. Concentrating on commercial risks can increase the likelihood of having to deal with major hazards at work.

Warning Signs: How they may be ignored Module

Warning Signs explains the benefits and drawbacks associated with warning signs and warning system. This module covers the following topics:

* Why people ignore intermittent warnings: The dangers

* Reasons workers might ignore warning signs

* Understanding that all things are dangerous until they are proven safe

* How "groupthink" can lead to safety hazards

A video is also included in the module that shows how warning signs can be overlooked in major accidents. Supervisors could learn more about warning signs and how they are ignored to improve their monitoring systems.
