Libec produces two primary, distinct types of adapter plates designed to integrate small cameras, rigs, and accessories onto professional broadcast and video gear.

The most common, widely integrated model is the Libec AP-X Quick Release Adapter Plate, followed by the legacy Libec AP-1.

1. Libec AP-X Quick Release Adapter Plate (Current Standard)

The Libec AP-X is a "snap-on/snap-off" base adapter system designed to live between your camera cage and various support gear (like sliders, monopods, or jibs). It acts as a bridge, allowing you to quickly mount a camera without changing the physical wedge plate underneath.

Core Features & Cross-Compatibility

  • Universal Dual Compatibility: The AP-X receiver mechanism is custom-tailored to natively accept both Manfrotto (501PL style) and Sachtler (Ace style) sliding plates. This lets you jump a single camera rig between completely different tripod brands instantly.

  • One-Touch Snap Lock: The system features a drop-in top assembly. It lets you safely snap the camera plate downward into the receiver utilizing only your left hand to loosen/tighten the ergonomic safety side knob, keeping your right hand completely free to support the camera payload.

  • Built-in Accessory Port & Spare Thread: The side of the aluminum chassis features a recessed storage slot housing a spare 3/8"-16 screw. When this spare screw is removed, that exact side port functions as a rigid 3/8"-16 female mounting point to support articulation friction arms (like the Libec AS-7K) for monitors or wireless transmitters.

Technical Matrix:

Parameter Libec AP-X Specifications
Model Number AP-X
Receiver Compatibility Manfrotto 501PL Standard / Sachtler Ace Sliding Plates
Base Mounting Threads Underside: 2x 1/4"-20 and 3x 3/8"-16 holes
Sliding Balance Range $\pm$ 1.2 inches / 30 millimeters
Material Finish Anodized Aluminum Alloy
Net Structural Weight 0.7 pounds / 317 grams

2. Libec AP-1 Tripod Adapter Plate (Legacy Broadcast Standard)

The Libec AP-1 is a specialized, lightweight wedge-style hardware adapter plate designed for a completely different application. It allows lightweight handheld videography camcorders to mount onto heavy, traditional broadcast V-mount tripod adapter plates (like the Sony VCT-14 or Libec equivalents).

Core Features & Utility

  • Mimics Full-Size ENG Wedges: Small handheld cameras lack the deep mechanical floor footprints required to lock into a quick-release broadcast pedestal. The AP-1 fastens securely to the bottom of small cameras, providing the exact structural wedge shape needed to lock directly into VCT-style plates.

  • Preserves Counterbalance Ergonomics: By staying permanently attached to the V-mount receiver plate on the fluid head, the AP-1 allows solo operators to repeatedly mount and dismount a compact handheld camera without constantly throwing off the pre-established centerline counterbalance configuration.

  • Magnesium Alloy Metallurgy: To prevent adding unnecessary structural weight to mobile run-and-gun packages, the AP-1 is molded from ultra-lightweight magnesium, adding only 0.4 pounds (200 grams) to the camera rig.

💡 Operational Pro-Tip for Selecting Plates:

If you are trying to add a quick-release setup to a camera slider, crane jib, or monopod so you can easily swap between a tripod and alternative support gear, buy the Libec AP-X.

If you are working in a traditional live broadcast environment and need to click a compact handheld camera down onto a studio pedestal's massive VCT-14 tripod base plate, buy the Libec AP-1.

Not the best, but not the worst either
Format: Hardcover
By any means not the funniest book in the series, only the one on Krusty the Clown was more un-funny; but still a worthy addition to your collection and, just like all the others from the series providing a retrospective of anecdotes you might have forgotten.

Not that great
Huge "The Simpsons" fan. I watched all the episodes and read a lot of the comics and enjoy most. This one however was quite boring. Turns out I'm just not a big fan of Chief Wiggum. I really enjoyed The "Homer" and "Bart" book. But not this one. Maybe if you love Wiggum you'll love it. If you're not too fond of him then I wouldn't buy it.

Good for my collection.
Format: Hardcover
This was another quick and entertaining read. This instalment wasn't as enjoyable as some of the other books but it was still good. I'm glad to have it in my collection.
