The Blackmagic Design Spares - Camera URSA Mini Pro 12K - Sensor Assy is the pinnacle of Blackmagic’s imaging technology. Unlike the 4.6K sensors found in previous models, this is a revolutionary 12K S35 sensor with a native resolution of $12,288 \times 6,480$.

This assembly is a matched set containing the CMOS sensor, the specialized optical stack, and the massive thermal mass required to keep the high-bandwidth processor stable during 12K recording.

The 12K "Generation 5" Technology

The 12K sensor is unique because it does not use a traditional Bayer pattern. It uses a new symmetrical pixel design with equal parts red, green, and blue pixels, optimized for multiple resolutions.

  • No-Crop Scaling: This sensor assembly is designed to allow the camera to shoot 8K and 4K without cropping the field of view, as the sensor scales internally.

  • Integrated OLPF/IR Stack: The glass in front of the sensor is specifically tuned to the 12K resolution to prevent moiré, which becomes a significant challenge at such high pixel densities.

  • Thermal Architecture: Because the 12K sensor processes an astronomical amount of data (up to 80 megapixels per frame), the assembly features a heavy-duty copper/aluminum heat-sync backing that must mate perfectly with the camera's internal active cooling system.

When to Replace the 12K Sensor Assembly

Replacing this assembly is usually the result of catastrophic damage or a permanent imaging defect:

  • Permanent Sensor "Lines": Vertical or horizontal lines that appear in the RAW data and cannot be removed by black shading or pixel remapping.

  • Internal Glass Delamination: If the IR-cut filter or OLPF inside the assembly begins to peel or shows "oil-slick" patterns, the entire assembly usually needs replacement as the 12K stack is highly integrated.

  • Physical Pitting: Scratches on the sensor glass that are visible even at wide apertures.

  • Electronic Failure: The camera displays a "Sensor Error" or fails to produce an image while the rest of the UI remains functional.

Key Features

  • High-Resolution Accuracy: Delivers 80 megapixels per frame with 14 stops of dynamic range.

  • 12K Specific: This assembly is strictly for the URSA Mini Pro 12K and 12K OLPF models. It is not compatible with the 4.6K G1 or G2 bodies due to different data-pin counts and physical mounting depths.

  • Low ISO Noise: Features a native ISO of 800, optimized for the Gen 5 Color Science.

Technical Installation Note

EXTREME CAUTION: Replacing a 12K sensor is the most difficult repair in the URSA lineup. The tolerances at 12K are so tight that the margin for error is nearly zero.

  • ISO Class 5 Cleanliness: Even a microscopic dust mote that might be invisible on a 4K sensor will block several pixels on a 12K sensor. Do not open the sensor block outside of a professional clean-bench environment.

  • Back Focus Precision: The depth of the 12K sensor is critical. After installation, you must use a flange focal distance gauge or a high-end prime lens and a Siemens star chart to shim the mount. If the sensor is off by $0.01\text{mm}$, your lens marks will not be accurate.

  • Firmware Initialization: Once the new sensor is installed, the camera's Main Board must "handshake" with the new silicon. You will likely need to perform a full factory reset and "Black Shading" calibration via the camera menu.

  • Thermal Bonding: You must replace the thermal pads or compound behind the sensor. If the 12K sensor is not properly bonded to the cooling block, it will reach critical temperature and shut down (or sustain damage) within minutes of recording in 12K BRAW.

Are you seeing a specific "Sensor Data" error on your 12K, or has the internal glass been physically damaged? Given the cost of this part, it's often worth checking if the issue is just the user-replaceable PL/EF mount glass before replacing the whole assembly.

not bad
Format: Kindle
I loved the plot of this book. The characters just didn’t have a lot of depth. The connections and “love” just weren’t communicated very well in the writing. The author didn’t write the sweet psycho trope very well at all either. Lachlan was just a mess of a character.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.
