The Sennheiser MZW 8000 (Article Number: 502333) is a professional, broadcast-grade foam windscreen engineered specifically for Sennheiser's elite MKH 8000 series modular RF condenser microphones. Tailored for a precision fit over the low-profile MKHC 8020 (omnidirectional), MKHC 8040 (cardioid), and MKHC 8050 (supercardioid) microphone capsules, this windshield provides critical acoustic isolation without altering the capsule's flat frequency response.
Finished in a discrete, low-visibility Anthracite (dark charcoal gray) color, it minimizes visual distractions on television sets, concert stages, or film booms under high-contrast lighting.
Key Acoustic and Structural Attributes
-
Specialized Dual-Layer Foam Matrix: Features an advanced, two-stage open-cell foam layout. The outer layer acts as a coarse buffer to diffuse rapid, fast-moving ambient air currents, while the dense inner layer captures lingering micro-turbulences and sharp vocal plosives (p, b, t) before they can overload the ultra-sensitive RF diaphragm.
-
Acoustically Transparent Engineering: Unlike cheap generic foam covers that damp upper-register air and muddy the signal, the MZW 8000 is acoustically matched to the MKH series. It introduces negligible attenuation to high-frequency transients, preserving the microphone's signature detail up to 50 kHz.
-
Optimized Indoor HVAC and Boom Isolation: Specifically designed to counter interior wind challenges. It shields the capsule from harsh overhead air-conditioning vents and blocks rapid air rushing sounds caused by fast panning maneuvers on a boom pole during fast-paced film or interview tracking.
-
Snug Friction-Fit Barrel Alignment: The inner mounting channel is bored to match the exact 19 mm diameter of the MKH 8000 modular microphone body, providing a reliable friction-grip fit that won't slide out of place when pointed upside down or used on overhead stage suspensions.

Production Deployment and Field Care Advice
Indoor vs. Outdoor Environment Thresholds: The MZW 8000 is the ultimate baseline shield for studio work, corporate interview locations, and general indoor vocal tracking. However, it is an open-cell foam unit meant to mitigate mild air movement and sudden boom movements. If you take your MKH 8040 or 8050 outdoors into direct, high-velocity environmental winds, this foam cover will not suffice on its own. For outdoor field work, you must upgrade the capsule defense to a specialized basket windshield or slip a dedicated hairy cover (like a Rycote Windjammer) over the top.
Maintaining Foam Integrity: To avoid warping or tearing the micro-cellular foam structures, never twist or aggressively wring out the windshield when sliding it over the microphone head. Smooth it straight onto the 19 mm barrel until the capsule grille is fully covered. If the windshield accumulates stage makeup, dust, or environmental moisture after heavy field use, gently wash it by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to air-dry completely before sliding it back onto your microphone gear.
