COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Preventing Elder Abuse in Aged Care course. This program is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, and strategies required to recognise, prevent, and address elder abuse in both residential and in-home care environments.

Elder abuse is a complex and deeply concerning issue, encompassing physical, emotional, financial, and neglect-related harm. This course begins with an exploration of its definition, the various types of abuse, its prevalence in aged care settings, and the risk factors that increase vulnerability among older people.

Recognising the signs of elder abuse is a critical aspect of prevention. You will learn to identify physical and behavioural indicators, psychological and emotional changes, and signs of financial exploitation or neglect. Understanding these warning signs empowers care providers to take swift and appropriate action.

Legal and ethical frameworks play a central role in elder abuse prevention. This course will cover key elder abuse legislation in Australia, mandatory reporting obligations, and the ethical responsibilities of aged care workers, ensuring that professionals act with integrity and within the bounds of the law.

Building a safe environment is fundamental to abuse prevention. You will explore strategies for promoting safety in residential care and implementing safeguards in in-home care settings. Encouraging open communication channels further ensures that clients feel secure and heard.

Training and education are vital for empowering staff to prevent elder abuse. This course will guide you in identifying knowledge gaps, conducting workshops and ongoing training, and providing staff with the confidence and tools needed to recognise and report abuse effectively.

Empowering older people to advocate for themselves is another key focus. You will learn how to educate clients about their rights, encourage self-advocacy, and build trust between clients and care providers, fostering a culture of respect and independence.

Family dynamics can sometimes contribute to abuse, making family and support network involvement essential. This course will explore recognising these dynamics, engaging families in preventive strategies, and supporting them in caregiving roles to reduce the risk of harm.

Effective communication is central to abuse prevention. You will develop skills in active listening, addressing misunderstandings, and facilitating difficult conversations about abuse, helping to create an open and transparent environment.

Risk assessment and management are critical in preventing elder abuse. This section will cover identifying high-risk situations, developing comprehensive risk management plans, and monitoring and evaluating strategies to mitigate risks effectively.

Reporting and investigating abuse requires a sensitive and structured approach. You will learn guidelines for reporting, steps in investigating allegations, and methods for ensuring confidentiality throughout the process to protect the dignity and safety of clients.

Financial abuse is a prevalent form of elder exploitation. This course will teach you how to identify signs of financial abuse, educate clients and families about financial safety, and collaborate with financial institutions to protect older people from exploitation.

Providing psychological and emotional support to clients affected by abuse is essential for their recovery. You will explore counselling services, person-centred care approaches, and strategies for addressing trauma to promote emotional healing.

Cultural and linguistic sensitivity is crucial in elder abuse prevention. This course will address cultural perspectives on elder abuse, barriers to reporting in CALD communities, and the development of culturally inclusive prevention plans.

Preventing neglect requires proactive measures to monitor and improve standards of care. You will learn to recognise and address caregiver burnout, develop clear protocols for client well-being, and ensure that neglect is identified and addressed promptly.

Promoting organisational accountability strengthens abuse prevention efforts. You will explore the establishment of prevention policies, regular staff evaluations, and systems for monitoring and reporting organisational compliance to uphold high standards of care.

The course concludes with case studies and best practices, providing valuable lessons from past abuse cases, successful prevention strategies, and evidence-based approaches for continuous improvement.

By the end of this course, you will be equipped to recognise, prevent, and respond to elder abuse, ensuring that older people receive care that is respectful, safe, and supportive of their dignity and well-being.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.

Stepbrothers, Secrets, and Sizzling Heat
Format: Kindle
Twisted Lies by Roxy Collins is a wild ride through family secrets, amnesia, and a steamy stepbrother romance. When Kelly discovers her life is built on lies, she ends up tangled with three alpha stepbrothers and an assassin who once helped her through a heat. The tension? Off the charts! The heat is real, and the complications are messy in the best way. Full of twists, secrets, and fated mates? You'll be hooked from page one! Love omegaverse drama with a dash of taboo? This one's for you!

Good read
Format: Kindle
The book has some good twists and turns, but truthfully I was so confused on some things. It didn't have a good flow for me personally. Not sure if it's due to typos or using him/her wrongly, but I thought Kelly was both a guy and a girl. Actually I still don't know, and it made me incredibly frustrated. It would refer to Kelley as him or he, and then again in another part of the story as her she and sister. On to the next book, I hope there is some clarity and a smoother flow. This is a slow burn, and I just don't know how much I care for the Alphas yet. Idk if I recommend.

the lies
Format: Kindle
This is amazing fast pace read that is full of plot twists and lies that keep getting bad. This is a story we’re a omega has been lied to by her mother and finds out that someone is slowing dieing. 3 alpha take the omega and feed her more lies so they can use her against her father so they can find their mate Kelly. This is a dark read and ends in a cliffhanger and so good.
