COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Assess & Manage Home Modifications for NDIS Home & Living Supports course. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and practical strategies required to support safe, functional, and participant-centred home environments through well-planned, well-managed NDIS-funded home modifications. Throughout this course, you will explore how thoughtful assessment, funding oversight, and coordinated implementation of home modifications can enhance independence, safety, and quality of life, while maintaining alignment with NDIS rules, evidence requirements, and ethical practice.

This course begins by introducing the role of NDIS home modifications within broader home and living arrangements and explaining why they require structured assessment and management. This section explains the purpose and scope of home modifications within NDIS home and living supports, highlights the importance of creating safe, functional, and participant-centred home environments, and outlines how effective assessment and management processes contribute to achieving independence and safety outcomes for participants.

Understanding NDIS home modifications in more detail is then explored to build a clear conceptual foundation. This section explains the definition and purpose of home modifications, clarifies the difference between minor and complex home modifications, and examines the relationship between modifications and each participant’s goals, daily routines, and broader supports. This section also describes how home modifications interact with other Home & Living supports and outlines key principles that guide modification decisions, such as least restrictive options, functionality, and value for money.

The NDIS funding and support categories relevant to home modifications are then examined so you can understand how funding decisions are structured and justified. This section explains the funding categories used for home modifications, discusses funding limits and flexibility considerations, and describes the relationship between clinical and functional assessments and funding approvals. This section also explores staged funding and cost thresholds for more complex works, and explains how funding decisions influence the timing, scope, and implementation of modifications.

Roles and responsibilities in home modification processes are then clarified to support effective collaboration and accountability. This section explains the responsibilities of occupational therapist (OT) assessors and allied health professionals in assessing functional need and recommending modifications, the role of plan managers in financial oversight, and the role of support coordinators within their defined limits. This section also describes coordination requirements with builders, suppliers, and providers, highlights the involvement of participants and informal supports, and emphasises the importance of managing role boundaries and accountability throughout the process.

Participant-centred assessment practices are then explored as the starting point for appropriate and effective modification design. This section explains how to understand participant needs, preferences, and daily routines, and how to conduct functional assessments and environmental considerations that reflect how a person actually uses their home. This section also examines how to support participant choice and control, consider current and future needs when recommending modifications, and document assessment outcomes clearly so they can be understood by funders, builders, and other stakeholders.

Risk identification and safety considerations are then examined to ensure that modifications genuinely reduce risk while supporting independence. This section explains how to identify hazards within the home environment, assess risks related to mobility, access, and personal care, and consider safety issues specific to shared or supported living arrangements. This section also explores how to balance safety with independence so that modifications do not unnecessarily restrict the participant, and describes how to document risk management decisions in a transparent and defensible way.

Designing appropriate home modifications is then considered as the bridge between assessment findings and practical changes to the environment. This section explains how to translate assessment findings into practical design solutions, how to select suitable modification options that fit the person’s home and lifestyle, and how to ensure that modifications are genuinely fit-for-purpose. This section also addresses considerations of durability and ongoing use, and emphasises the importance of aligning design decisions with participant goals, preferences, and broader home and living plans.

Compliance, standards, and ethical considerations are then explored to guide safe and defensible recommendation and implementation practices. This section explains the need to comply with relevant building standards, accessibility guidelines, professional standards, and NDIS policy requirements when recommending and approving modifications. This section also examines ethical decision-making in modification recommendations, managing conflicts of interest, maintaining transparency about recommendations and costs, and meeting record-keeping and evidence requirements for audit and review.

Managing quotes, approvals, and funding decisions is then examined as a critical administrative and financial function. This section explains how to obtain and review quotes from builders and suppliers, how to support funding approval processes by presenting clear evidence and rationale, and how to manage variations and cost changes while remaining within NDIS expectations. This section also outlines how to communicate funding and approval decisions to participants in an understandable way, and how to document approvals, agreements, and conditions clearly.

Implementing and coordinating home modifications is then explored to ensure that approved works are delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption. This section explains how to schedule and coordinate works with builders, participants, and other stakeholders, how to manage communication and expectations during the build period, and how to minimise disruption to participants and those they live with. This section also outlines how to monitor progress and quality, and how to address issues or concerns that arise during implementation.

Managing changes, variations, and unexpected issues during modification projects is then considered to support flexible yet compliant responses. This section explains how to respond to unforeseen site or design challenges that emerge once works commence, how to manage scope changes ethically and transparently, and how to adjust budgets and timelines when necessary. This section also describes how to communicate changes clearly to participants and other stakeholders, and how to maintain compliance and accurate documentation when variations occur.

Review, handover, and outcome evaluation are then examined to ensure that completed modifications deliver the intended benefits. This section explains how to inspect completed modifications, confirm that they are functional, safe, and in line with agreed designs, and support participant understanding and safe use of new features or equipment. This section also explores how to evaluate outcomes against goals, document final outcomes, and capture feedback that can inform future assessments and recommendations.

Ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement in home modification practice are then considered as part of sustainable home and living outcomes. This section explains how to monitor the long-term suitability of modifications, identify when adjustments or further changes may be needed, and learn from completed projects to improve future assessment and management processes. This section also explores how to strengthen systems, templates, and collaborative practices over time so that home modifications continue to support safe, functional, and participant-centred home and living outcomes.

By the end of this course, you will be able to describe the purpose and structure of NDIS home modifications, understand relevant funding and role boundaries, and contribute effectively to assessment, design, financial oversight, and coordination processes. You will know how to support participant-centred assessments, manage risks, navigate quotes and approvals, and oversee implementation and review in ways that are compliant, ethical, and goal-focused. Most importantly, you will be better equipped to assess and manage home modifications that genuinely enhance independence, safety, and quality of life within NDIS home and living supports.

Each section is complemented with examples to illustrate the concepts and techniques discussed.

Ends in a cliffhanger
Format: Kindle
Thankfully, the next book is already available. Roxy Collins is the queen of omegaverse slow burn. This particular series is omegaverse with wolf shifters. Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Lots of suspense and trying to figure out what is true and what's really going on. I loved it! Pretty spicy once the action starts. Heats are pretty much always spicy. There is a little bit of male interaction, but not full-on shmex. Definitely recommend.

Epic!!!!
Format: Kindle
Absolutely addicted from the first page. The twists and turns, world building and character development all come together for the perfect Omegaverse. And let's not forget that spice because knots are life and these are spectacular. Running for book #2 because that cliffhanger was torturous.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.

Stepbrothers, Secrets, and Sizzling Heat
Format: Kindle
Twisted Lies by Roxy Collins is a wild ride through family secrets, amnesia, and a steamy stepbrother romance. When Kelly discovers her life is built on lies, she ends up tangled with three alpha stepbrothers and an assassin who once helped her through a heat. The tension? Off the charts! The heat is real, and the complications are messy in the best way. Full of twists, secrets, and fated mates? You'll be hooked from page one! Love omegaverse drama with a dash of taboo? This one's for you!
