Die Böden dieser Pagos weisen sehr unterschiedliche Beschaffenheiten auf: am Flussufer lehmig, am Hang herrschen Sand- und Kiesböden vor, deren oberen Schichten sehr kalkhaltig sind. Die unterschiedlichen Rebsorten wurden und werden gemäß der besten örtlichen Gegebenheiten angebaut. So gelangt eben auch nur bestes Lesegut in die Cuvée der Abadia Selección Especial, bestehend aus Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon und Syrah. Die vielversprechende dunkelrote Farbe lässt bereits Wunderbares erahnen. Der erste Eindruck zeigt sich sauber und harmonisch mit elegantem Ausdruck. Die Fruchtnoten von Brombeere, roter Pflaume, sowie wilden Erdbeeren und reifen Himbeeren verbinden sich sehr geschmeidig mit cremigen sowie edlen, exotischen Holznoten (Sandelholz). Im Mund gefällt er durch seine anfängliche Milde, die sich langsam zu einem vollen und intensiven Eindruck steigert und mit einem langen Finale abschließt. Reife Tannine und eine leichte, aber frische Säure runden den harmonischen Gesamteindruck ab.
